‘PEE RED TO GREEN’ – A thought provoking Documentary for a Cause

    image_MIL

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham-Kochi has always been at the forefront of projecting social causes and raising awareness on issues which impact human lives alike. With their innovative initiatives and ideologies, the institution has become a model for others to follow.

Menstruation is an essential constituent of a female reproductive health and wellbeing. While most of the women use Sanitary pads, these contain super absorbent polymers which do not decompose easily. They also affect the environment and enter the food chain causing health hazards to the consumers. Though sustainable and environmentally friendly products have been launched in the market, many still don’t understand the value of such sustainable products.

Taking up the issue, the Visual Media students of Amrita Viswa Vidyapeetham recently shot a thought-provoking short documentary ‘PEE RED TO GREEN’, based on Kumbalanghi - the first Sanitary napkin free island-village in India. The authorities ensured distribution of free menstrual cups to every woman in the village and provided them with complete knowledge regarding the usage of menstrual cups and as well about the menstrual cycle. 'THINKAL's - AVALKAAYI' is one among several initiatives and facilities that are provided under the Kumbalanghi's SAGHI SANSAD AADRSH YOJANA scheme.

The documentary CD was published by the respected MP Sri. Hibi Eden and was handed over to the President of Kumbalanghi Grama Panchayath, Smt. Leeja Thomas, to express gratitude to the entire village that lent a helping hand to the students for completing the documentary.

Faculty – Our Strength and Pride

The Amrita faculty, who come from academically sound background, lay great stress on integral development of students. Frequent series of Expert Lectures are given by IT, Business, Management, Information Science, Commerce, Finance, Mathematics and Broadcast, Visual and Print Media Experts.

A dedicated group of teachers, visiting experts and consultants inspired by AMMA’s call for selfless service, form the core of the school faculty. “To give the best of training to the students as offering to the Divine”, is AMMA’s foreword to Her children at Amrita, and adherence to the same has set the standard of Amrita schools high above others. The emphasis given in the various educational institutions of AMMA is not only on the academic growth of the student, but also on the overall development of personality and character.

Apart from the experienced, dedicated and devoted core staff members of the school, the adjunct, visiting and guest faculty also consists of experts drawn from various other Universities, Industries and Research Organizations and from other institutions under the Math.

Highly experienced core faculty is also supported by frequent Visiting Lecturer s by top Management Practitioners, Chartered Accountants, Psychologists, IT Professionals, Lawyers, Language Experts, Media and Film Professionals, Artists, University Academicians, Consultants and Entrepreneurs.
